Turner Hill Road in DeKalb County was witness to an unfortunate highway crash in Georgia.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, they received a call about three people being involved in a wreck on I-20 just around 02:00 AM early Sunday morning, November 20.
While the 3 people were waiting outside their vehicle for GSP responders, an oncoming vehicle crashed into them – leaving one person dead and two others in critical condition.
As officers arrived on the scene, they discovered victims on both sides of the interstate. Police said a 21-year-old man was dead and two women, one in her 20s and another in her 40s, were in critical condition.
Traffic was shut down on both eastbound and westbound I-20 for several hours to investigate the tragic accident.
No charges have been filed and the names of those involved are not yet released by the police.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the departed young man for their traumatic loss. Our prayers are with the injured women for their quick recovery.
A horrifying highway crash in Georgia that should never have taken place
It is difficult to imagine waiting for the police after getting into a car accident and then being hit again by a reckless driver. The circumstances for the accident are still unclear, but a little attention on both sides may have prevented this tragedy.
Nevertheless, basic safe driving practices could have helped to prevent devastating car collisions.
Safety precautions that can significantly reduce the death rate from accidents include:
- Don’t drink or take drugs while driving
- Don’t be distracted by your phone while driving
- Wear your seatbelt while driving at all times
- On a highway, pay close attention to halted traffic, particularly after dark
In Georgia, traffic accidents occur far too frequently – despite having the eighth highest population, the state ranks fourth in fatal traffic crashes – 450 people died and 6,640 were injured in 4999 traffic accidents in 2020.
