Ambulance involved in a three-car crash in Georgia; one dead, 3 injured

Last updated Friday, November 18th, 2022

In a tragic car crash in Georgia, involving three vehicles, a Central EMS unit responding to a call with lights and siren on, a Dodge pickup, and a Ford Mustang, an EMT was killed and three other people were injured.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the morning wreck on Canton Highway in Forsyth County claimed the life of Central EMS EMT Gina Ayres, 57, of Cumming. Several vehicles were involved in the crash, including the ambulance, a Ford Mustang, and a Dodge Ram pickup truck, at around 7 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17.

A GSP report stated that the ambulance was responding to an emergency call on Highway 20 and used the center turn lane to negotiate traffic.

A tractor-trailer heading west tried to yield to the ambulance by abruptly applying brakes and coming to a stop. As a result, the Mustang behind it swerved into the center lane.

The official release further states, “A green Ford Mustang that was following too closely to the tractor-trailer, swerved into the center turn lane to avoid a collision with the tractor-trailer, causing the Mustang to strike the Central EMS Ambulance head-on in the center turn lane.” “A black Dodge Ram pickup behind the Ford Mustang was struck as the Ford Mustang swerved after impact.”

The ambulance, which turned over in the terrifying crash, was not carrying any passengers at the time of the crash.

The victims were all rushed to Wellstar North Fulton Hospital, and Ms. Ayres, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries at 11:25 a.m. Firefighters at the scene reported that multiple victims had to be extricated from vehicles.

Blanco Fermin Rodolfo, 48, of Cumming, the driver of the Mustang, was seriously injured and is expected to face charges after further investigation. He was airlifted to an area hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck and the passenger in the ambulance received minor injuries.

It took about two hours for Canton Highway to reopen.

Gina Ayres is survived by her husband and two adult daughters. “Gina was a dearly loved member of the Central EMS family, and we are devastated by her loss. Our hearts and prayers are with Gina’s family and colleagues at this difficult time,” Central EMS officials said in a statement.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of Gina Ayres for their traumatic loss.
