Emerson City Mayor & His Wife Camilla Were Killed in Georgia DUI Crash
Last updated Wednesday, December 14th, 2022
In a horrific reminder of the dangers of impaired driving, a Georgia DUI crash claimed the lives of a longtime mayor of a northwest Georgia town and his wife. Georgia State Patrol reported that four vehicles were involved in the crash on Knox Bridge Highway just east of Field Landing Road around 4 PM on Saturday, December 10.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s office, a pickup truck driver lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line, and smashed into a Hyundai Santa Fe traveling in the opposite direction. Sadly, both SUV occupants, Albert Pallone, 65, and Camilla Pallone, 69, were killed at the scene.
As a result of the collision, Alebert Pallone’s vehicle overturned and was then struck by a GMC Savanna. The Savanna also crashed into a Mazda 3.
Police said the truck driver, William Bryan Abernathy, 50, of Calhoun, was arrested and charged with DUI, reckless driving, first-degree vehicular homicide, and serious injury by vehicle. Abernathy also suffered injuries and is recovering at an undisclosed local hospital.
The drivers of the Mazda 3 and GMC Savanna were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for minor injuries.
Albert Pallone served for 15 years as Mayor of Emerson, a city of about 1,400 people located in Bartow County. He was much loved and respected by his community. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp offered condolences on Twitter, saying the Pallones “will be deeply missed by their loved ones and the community that they served so well. Please join us in praying for their family during this time.”
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Pallone family and the entire Emerson community during this difficult time.
