Fatal Georgia Crash Claims Two Lives on Highway 247 in Macon

Last updated Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022

In another fatal Georgia crash, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office reported that shortly before 5 PM, a car left Cochran Field Road and approached Hawkinsville Road, colliding with a southbound car. Both cars rolled over and landed in the median. According to Leon Jones, both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The horrific crash happened on Wednesday, November 9 in the early evening near Smiley’s Flea Market. The collision is still under investigation and more details will be released as they become available.

The unfortunate victims were later identified as Tommy Keith Smith, 57 of Jones County, and William Noah Jones, 20 of Macon. Based on preliminary investigation, the car that crossed over was driven by Smith, which struck Jones’s vehicle.

A firefighter and paramedic team responded to the scene to provide assistance. Traffic on Highway 247 was rerouted temporarily while police cleared the scene.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to both families as they deal with their grief and loss.

Has a loved one tragically died in a fatal Georgia crash?

An untimely death due to no fault of the deceased leaves the mourning family with many unanswered questions. A reckless driver’s negligence and distraction leave the victims’ families shattered.

We all know that Georgia has a high rate of tragic traffic accidents – it ranks fourth in the country for the number of road deaths, even though it is the eighth most populated state – in 2020 alone, 4999 traffic accidents caused 450 deaths and 6,640 injuries.

We believe that the vast majority of fatal accidents could be prevented by refraining from unsafe driving practices, including:

  • DUI – driving under the influence
  • Distracted driving due to music, phones, or small talk
  • Not wearing a seatbelt while driving
  • Driving at a reckless speed
