Last updated Tuesday, November 15th, 2022

Georgia Car Accident: Georgia State Patrol reports that one person was killed in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer in Hall County around 6 PM on October 7.

The devastating crash happened when a Honda Accord driver, heading eastbound, veered across the median and collided with a tractor-trailer, the state police officials said.

After the collision’s forceful impact, the semi-truck caught fire and was totally consumed.

The crash forced the closure of SR 52 west of GA 365 for more than an hour as troopers inspected the scene and cleaned up the area.

48-year-old Cindy Elaine Flanagan of Lula, the driver of the Honda died of her injuries, whereas 60-year-old Danny Garmon of Gainesville, the driver of the tractor-trailer, suffered minor injuries.

Georgia State Patrol announced that investigations of the wreck will continue and that they will release any new information when it is available.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased.

Fatal car accidents are rising in Georgia

The NHTSA estimates that 9,560 people were killed in traffic accidents in America during the first quarter of 2022. It represents a 7% increase over the 8,935 fatalities projected for the same quarter in 2021. In line with national trends, data indicates fatal traffic accidents have increased in Georgia.

As a general rule, there tend to be three main causes of car accidents – speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving. The result of all these factors is what we refer to as unsafe driving practices

Driving safely involves steering clear of the following practices:

  • Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Driving while distracted in various ways – texting, talking on the phone, listening to music, etc.
  • Excessive speeding

59% of fatal car accident victims did not wear a seatbelt or were inadequately restrained.

As a whole, the numbers are still heading in the wrong direction. Traffic safety needs to be addressed urgently by all states now.
