Giving back to the community is one of Murphy Law Firm’s core beliefs. The owner and attorney, James Murphy, dedicates much of his time, money, and resources to helping others and giving back to charities, non-profits, local businesses, and the Douglas County School System.
Recent Community Projects:
Murphy’s “REACH FOR YOUR DREAM” College Scholarship: Murphy Law Firm donates $1500 in college scholarships to students living in Douglas County. We select those who are good students, but find themselves in a temporary financial situation that makes it difficult for them to continue their education. Students who apply must meet our GPA requirement, are actively enrolled in school, and have already filled out their FASFA.
Murphy’s 5K Fun Run: Murphy Law Firm donated $5,000, and raised another $4,000, totaling a $9,000.00 donation to give to the D.A.N.N.Y. Center, a non-profit center helping troubled teens in the community.
Kids’ Summer Book Giveaway Program: Every Summer, Murphy Law Firm buys books for children to promote reading. The children personally pick the book they want to read over their summer break. The kids come in on a Saturday and take pictures, meet Mr. Murphy, and get their books. Many of the children are very excited to receive them.
Teacher of the Month: Attorney James Murphy gives an award every month to a deserving teacher in Douglas County. His three children have gone through the Douglas County School System, and his wife is a science teacher who taught in Douglas County for many years. He truly appreciates the teachers and administrators, and decided to start Douglas County’s Teacher of the Month program to give back to the school system.
High School Senior Scholarship: Every summer since 2012, James Murphy has given $500 scholarships to high school seniors who have just graduated high school in Douglas, Paulding, and Carroll county. The contest asks that each student write an essay regarding teenagers and the dangers of texting and driving. These scholarships help students with costs for tuition and books for college.
Parent IB Groups: James Murphy’s children have been in the IB program at Douglas County High School. He witnessed the grueling schedule and stress that can be placed on these students, so he, along with Mr. Casey Hall, started the Parent IB Group program. This program educates families with teenagers in the IB program on how to help their teens cope with the stress, schedules, and work load to successfully graduate high school in the IB program.
Saint Theresa Squires: James Murphy volunteers many Saturdays leading a great group of young gentlemen from Saint Theresa’s Catholic church on many volunteer projects, fun field trips, and community events.
